I was lazing on the beach on Ishigaki Island. This was not a bathing beach, so there were no swimmers on the beach. All I could see was large ships floating offshore.
Thumpy clouds were floating above the sea where large ships were coming and going. There seemed to be a shipping route not far from Ishigaki Island, and many cargo ships could be seen sailing by even from land.
Okinawa once prospered through trade with China and Southeast Asia. It was once an independent country as the Ryukyu Kingdom. The cargo ships floating above the sea are perhaps a remnant of its former prosperity in maritime trade.
