A man wearing a traditional cap called a topi was sitting in the eaves of the Dattatraya Temple in Bhaktapur. A large stone statue of a warrior with a sword in his hand sat in front of the man. The man was crouched behind the statue as if hiding. I don't know what he was doing. But he had a grim expression on his face.
From a Japanese perspective, it seems out of place to have a warrior at the entrance of a temple, but if you think about it, it is not so different from Japan. The role of the warrior is the same as that of a vajrayaksa in Japan. In other words, they are guarding the temple. The only difference is that while the Vajrayaksa has an enraged expression on his face, the warrior statues in Nepalese temples have a somewhat vacant look on their faces.
