As I was walking down a staircase in Kandy, I came across three boys. They were very interested in the camera I was holding, so I pointed it at them and they leaned in close and gave me a very special look.
All three boys were wearing white caps called taqiyah and long one-piece dresses called abayas. Judging by their appearance, the boys were Muslim. Although Sri Lanka has the image of a Buddhist country, about 9% of the population is Muslim, and since one in ten people is a Muslim, that means there are quite a few Muslims in the country.
