The area around Yurakucho Station is a vibrant place with many buildings. What is interesting is that the character of the town differs across the JR tracks. The Marunouchi side is a business district with several large office buildings, while the Yurakucho side is a consumer area with department stores. While both sides are vibrant and bustling, the people walking around are different. On the Yurakucho side, there are many smiling people enjoying shopping, and the difference is clearly visible.
Where there are many happy people, there is a happy atmosphere. You can get a sense of this atmosphere just by looking at the people passing by in front of Yurakucho Station Square, or by looking down from the connecting bridge at Yurakucho Itocia, which stands in front of the station. Looking down from the connecting bridge, one feels as if joy is floating in the narrow corridor between buildings as people are passing through the area. Even the way people take out their umbrellas and start to put them out as it begins to rain is somehow joyful.
