From the top of the footbridge where I was standing, I could see the pedestrian crossing below. When the signal turned green, a large number of people appeared on the zebra of the pedestrian crossing, moving up and down. In the meantime, a couple came into view and started crossing the pedestrian crossing side by side.
I'm not sure if this is just a Japanese trait, but few people try to cross the road at a red light, even if there are no cars in sight. Watching this scene reminded me of Philippe Troussier, who once coached the Japanese national football team, saying that Japanese players were too obedient. This is why we have a disciplined society, and at the same time, it seems to be the reason why Japanese companies are unable to develop innovative products.
