Torii (shrine gates) lined the narrow staircase. Although few people were walking, this must be another approach to Hie Jinja Shrine. The rows of torii gates made the stairs look like a tunnel. I stopped at the top of the stairs and looked down to see a man in a suit walking down them. The staircase was dimly lit, and I could see where the sun was shining at the end of it.
As I stared at it, I had the feeling that this tunnel-like staircase led to another world. Toward that other world, I began to slowly descend the stairs, as did the man.
