Stairway Covered With Torii

The stairway is steep

Shot at Hie Jinja, a Shinto shrine in Nagatacho, Tokyo.

Aside from the prayer hall, which was crowded with the worshipers, the stairway in the rear was surrounded by the silence. The steep staircase was covered with Torii and looked like a tunnel.

An escalator was built along the main approach. Yet any worshipers who wanted to enter the precinct through the back door have to climb under their own power this step. When I looked upward, I saw a woman climbing. She seemed to be in great straits for climbing.
