The girl I met in Daulatabad seemed shy, but when I asked her if I could take her picture, she readily agreed. She stopped in front of a truck and gave me a bashful smile. She was a stylish girl.
The girl was wearing an ornate tunic, a hair band, and earrings. Upon closer inspection, she also had a piercing on the left side of her nose. It is not unusual for women in India and other South Asian countries to have their noses pierced, and it is also a common practice to pierce the left hole. It is believed that this will ease menstrual pains and birth pains peculiar to women.
