Many pits were built on the ground in the area surrounded by buildings. This place was a tannery and these holes were tanning pits. The scene of the working craftsmen was one of the major tourist attractions in the old quarter called Fez el Bali.
The tanning procedures were still carried out by hand here. Watching the pits from above, I felt the pits looked like cells of a creature. And the craftsmen were working like a Mitochondrion in them.
