The jeep-like vehicle in the photo is a kind of shared-ride cab that connects Berhampore and neighboring towns. They seem to have a fixed route, so they are more like buses than cabs. The seats are only attached to the back of the car, so there are only a few, and they fill up quickly. Those who could not sit inside were held on the outside and the car drove on.
The road is not always neatly paved, and the bumpy road makes you worry that the person you are holding on to will be swept off the road. At any rate, the person holding on to seemed distracted by the fact that I was holding the camera up.
