Lots of rowing wooden boats were floating on the Buriganga River

Ferries on the Buriganga River
People on a ferry on the Buriganga River

A large number of passengers were relaxing on a ferry on the Buriganga River, which flows beside Dhaka. The ferry in the center of the photo is a bit larger than the others, but it still does not have a motor. Like many other ferries, it was man-powered to cross the big river. There were other ferryboats floating in front of and beyond this boat. A man with an umbrella was standing at the bow of the boat over there.

There were no bridges in this area. For this reason, ferryboats are an indispensable means of transportation for the locals who travel between the two banks of the river. Many boats were floating on the river and the docks were crowded.
