A vehicle converted into a bus with seats on the back of a truck was parked on the side of the road. This type of bus is common in India. Most of the local buses running in small rural towns like Malda are like this one. This bus also had passengers sitting on seats in the back, waiting for the bus to depart.
There is no timetable for this kind of transportation. The bus must be full before it departs, and the passengers are waiting for the seats to fill up. As I pointed my camera at one such seat, an old woman sitting on it looked at me and smiled. The little boy in front of her, wearing a bindi, looked surprised. Maybe I was the first foreigner he had ever seen.
