I was walking towards my hotel without any hesitation. I thought I was blending in with the locals, but it seems I was the only one who thought so. Most people were indifferent to me, but there were a few who would glance at me as I passed them. Foreigners walking around with cameras inevitably stand out.
The man in the photo was one of the people who noticed me as I walked by. When I came close to him, he called out to me as if he had been waiting for me. He was holding several newspapers in his hands. The man was selling newspapers on the street. Even though smart phones are becoming popular, many people in Yangon still buy newspapers to keep up with current affairs.
When the man saw me, he did not seem to have any intention of selling newspapers, but was only interested in the camera I was holding. I had no choice but to meet his expectations. When I held up my camera, the man happily gave me a peace sign while showing me the newspaper he was holding.
