As I walked through the old city of Bhaktapur, a man was sitting in the doorway, relaxing. There was a newspaper spread out on his lap. He was reading the newspaper there. When I pointed the camera at him, he smiled shyly. It was supposed to be an idyllic afternoon, but suddenly a strange foreigner appeared, seemingly a bit bewildered by the situation with the camera pointed at him. Looking closer, I saw that the woman inside the house was also laughing.
The inside of the house, seen beyond the man, was dimly lit. He didn't seem to have turned on the lights. It seemed more relaxing to sit on the couch in the house and read than to sit on the front porch, but many people were doing something on the front porch, like this man. The house was dimly lit, and it didn't seem to be the best place to relax. Well, there are a lot of power outages around here to begin with, so maybe that has something to do with it.
