The market in Pune, of course, had stores selling spices. This is indeed the mother country of curry. Spices are indispensable for making curry.
The bearded man in the photo is a man who worked at such a spice shop. The walls of the small store were all covered with shelves, displaying several containers full of spices. They appear to carry every kind of spice imaginable. Although spice lovers must be thrilled, I had no idea what kind of spices they were. It's a waste of a great opportunity to get rare spices in Japan if I only pay for them.
I looked closely and saw a mechanical balance in the store. Considering that many people in India still use balances to weigh things, this store might be advanced.
