The Pettah district in the center of Colombo was a wholesale district. The streets were lined with wholesalers, and trucks were bringing in goods. I had just passed a wholesaler dealing in spices.
There were no trucks, no products to deliver, and no customers at this time. The storefront had a dreary atmosphere. The man with the mustache in the photo is one of the workers at the spice wholesaler. He seemed to be a Hindu, which is a minority in Buddhist-majority Sri Lanka, because he wore a bindi between his eyebrows. The chain seen next to the man belongs to a large balance scale. This wholesaler still uses an old-fashioned balance scale for weighing.
