Many people visited this shrine at the beginning of the new year. The precinct was crowded with them and I was one of them. When I walked around the precinct, I found a man wearing a lion mask. He was performing a lion dance. And he was handing out balloons at the same time.
It is believed that the lion dance had a power to expel evil spirits and clean up epidemics in Japan. To open and shut its mouth means it eats bad vibes.
