As I passed by a diner and a food stall, the road naturally led me into a residential area. As I had heard, a residential area spread out right next to Yangon Central Station. In Tokyo, it would be like having many private houses right next to Tokyo Station. It seems that the central station in Yangon is not built in the center of the city.
Houses are built on both sides of alleys. Children are playing in the alleys and mothers are busy with their chores. This is an unmistakably residential area. There is a central station nearby, and although there should be a train line running through the area, one does not hear the sound of a train running. There was a peaceful atmosphere in the air. The atmosphere was that of a small village on the outskirts of town.
As I was walking down an alley in such a residential area, I met the woman in the photo. She was sitting on a chair on the concrete floor, with laundry soap and a washcloth lying in front of her. The woman was in the middle of doing her laundry there. The clothes she was washing were stretched out on the ground. When the woman with the big earrings noticed me, she stopped and smiled at me.
