All the houses in this village were a thatched house. Even though the dwellers want to rebuild their own house, they couldn't do it without the permission because this area has been listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites as Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama.
The house in this photo stood in the midst of the field. The wind blew around the house. The wooden traditional house let a draft in. So the dweller might bundle up against the bitter cold in the house during the winter.
