Sri Lanka's railroads have a long history, dating back to 1858 when they were first built to transport agricultural products such as coffee and tea.
Even though it has a long history, the number of trains is not proportional to the length of the history, and it was rare to see trains running on the tracks that I saw in Kandy. Instead, the locals frequented the tracks.
Since not many trains run on the tracks, it seems that people use the tracks much more than trains. In this photo, you can see a number of people literally walking on the tracks. There are a lot of people walking on the tracks in the area of Candy. Maybe it's a shortcut.
