The layout of Buddhist temples in Myanmar is quite different from that in Japan. In Japan, the main hall where the Buddha statue is located is in the center of the temple grounds, whereas in Myanmar, the pagoda stands in the center of the temple grounds. The halls with Buddha statues are located around the central stupa. It is the same in Shwedagon Paya, the largest temple in Myanmar.
The hall in the photo is one of a number of halls built around the soaring stupa in the center. When I looked inside, I saw an old man sitting upright in front of one of the Buddha statues. He was staring at the Buddha statue. It looked as if he was talking to the Buddha statue. Perhaps he was thinking about something.
