Many locals were relaxing in the large precinct. And many images of Buddha were placed in spots. Apart from tourists, the locals didn't have to pay admission. So the precinct functioned also as a place of relief. It was the place for both the worship and the relaxation.
The woman in this photo was one of those who were lazy and relax in the precinct. She painted her cheeks with Thanaka. And a book was in her hand. She was reading a book while sitting in the shade. Except for the hotness, it was a nice place to read books calmly.
