Deep-fried Tofu

Deep-fried tofu

Some deep-fried tofu was displayed in the storefront

Shot in the city of Musashi-Koyama, Tokyo.

Musashi-Koyama is famous for its long shopping arcade. Many shops and restaurants stood side by side in the arcade. There is an old-fashioned Tofu store and some deep-fried tofu is sold. Unfortunately, most of the stores were chain stores here. The number of the old-fashioned private shops like this was decreasing.

It is a common phenomenon all over the country. Especially, the number of the tofu shop is decreasing dramatically. There were over 50,000 shops in this country in the 1960s. Yet the number became less than one-fifth of its prime.
