Soon after I saw the boys studying in the hut, I found other boys playing on the street. These boys were about the same age as the ones studying in the hut, but they seemed to have chosen to play on the street rather than study. It is much more fun to play on the street than to study in a dimly lit hut.
Unlike the boys in the hut, the boys playing on the street were very interested in the camera I was holding. When they saw me, they stopped playing and rushed over to me. One boy struck a brave pose, and the boy beside him was smiling with his mouth wide open. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the boy posing had a string in his hand and the boy with his mouth open had a piece in his hand. The boys were spinning tops on the street. Even though smartphones are already quite common in Myanmar, they are not something that children have yet. The traditional spinning tops are still the playthings for boys playing on the street.
