The boy I met in the old town of Meknes had strong eyebrows and clear double eyelids. He had a clear face. When I pointed my camera at him, he raised the corner of his mouth slightly. It looked as if he was trying to smile or was surprised.
In Morocco, many adults don't like to have their pictures taken. I wondered if it was because the children had seen it. Many children also don't like to be photographed. But the difference between them and adults was that they seemed to be having fun even when they refused. In fact, they seem to want to have their picture taken.
Considering this situation, the boy with the mixed expression of smile and surprise is probably in the process of climbing the stairs to adulthood. When he gets a little older, the smile will disappear and only surprise and discomfort will remain.
