The houses in the village of Tam-an were all built on stilts. The village looked as if it hadn't changed in hundreds of years. When I came to a house, I saw a woman sitting on a bench under the floor of a high-floored house, knitting something.
Life was busy in the village, which must have no electrical appliances. Washing clothes, cooking rice, everything is done by hand. This woman may or may not have noticed me approaching, but she continued to work quietly. She was so busy that she didn't have time to pay attention to a gentile who suddenly appeared.
