A number of painters were perched on the sidewalk in Jakarta. The reason why I knew they were painters was that the area was lined with the painters' work, making the sidewalk looked like a gallery. The painters were working on their works while they lined the sidewalk wall. This place was a gallery and studio of painters lined up every few meters.
The man wearing the beret in this photo was one of those in the gallery and studio. He seemed to have just been ordered and was sketching with the canvas in front of him. Inside, a sketchy woman's face emerged. The model woman was nowhere to be found around the painter. What the painter was looking at was a small smartphone screen. Instead of having a real model sit in front of him, he seemed to be drawing while looking at a photo on his smartphone.
As I looked at it, I noticed that even the woman in the canvas was wearing a hijab. Maybe it was because the model wore it in the photo he watched, but I thought he could decorate her with her favorite hairstyle, as long as it's on a canvas away from reality.
