The streets I was walking down in Bangkok were lined with shops. It was hot and the streets were filled with lassitude. It must have been extremely difficult to work quickly in such a climate. All the shops were quiet as if they were waiting for the heat to pass. The shutters were open, but there were hardly any people working there. I guess in a tropical country like Thailand, people have to have air conditioning to work. It's not often mentioned, but I personally think that the spread of air conditioners was an essential tool of civilization behind the development of ASEAN countries, but what do you think?
A woman was sitting in a shop. There were several bundles of wood lying on the floor in front of her. The woman's gaze wandered off into the distance and I didn't notice any signs of movement or intent to start anything. The woman seemed to have been completely swallowed up by the lazy tropical heat. Time was just passing quietly. If I could, I wouldn't want to work in this kind of heat.
