As I was walking through the streets of Kolkata, three boys on their way home from school came up to me. They seemed to be intrigued by the camera I was holding. They wore matching school uniforms, so they must be from the same school.
The uniforms of the three boys were of the shirt-and-tie variety. The school children I met in Pune also wore ties, and I have a feeling that many school uniforms in India require the wearing of ties. I wondered if it was because India was a British colony and there was an assumption that if you wore a shirt, you had to wear a tie as well.
The three boys who came in front of me were talking animatedly. I don't know what they are talking about, but they must be talking about cameras and photography. As proof of this, I pointed my camera at them without saying a word, and they got along well with me in the viewfinder.
