Teotihuacan is the site of a huge religious city that was actually in use from the 2nd century BC to the 6th century AD. It is said to have once been the central city of Mesoamerica. However, it began to decline around the 7th century and was eventually abandoned. It is no longer used as a religious site, and has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico. Many tourists were idly walking along the large main street in the center of the ruins.
I climbed a little higher to look over the ruins and saw the Pyramid of the Sun rising in the distance. The Pyramid of the Sun is large despite its distance. It is so huge that it has become the symbol of Teotihuacan.
