The old, round-faced woman sitting on the side of the road had a piercing in the left hole of her nose
An older woman with a moon face sat on the side of the road in Daulatabad. She had a bindi on her forehead and a shiny piercing in her nose. This older woman also has her nose pierced only in the left hole. In India, it is not so unusual for women to have their noses pierced. It is believed that there is a woman's special pressure point in the left hole of the nose, and the purpose of the piercing is to stimulate that point.
When I pointed the camera at the older woman, she smiled at me with a blush on her cheeks. The way she puffed up her cheeks a bit, it was as if she was putting something liquid in her mouth.
