By the roadside in Rangpur, a man sat quietly, doing nothing in particular — simply letting time pass, unhurried and unbothered.
The lines on his face spoke of the years he had lived. His beard, streaked with white, was neatly trimmed — a touch of order within an otherwise casual appearance. In Bangladesh, many men wear beards, but the way they care for them often reflects something personal. This man, clearly, took his time. There was intention behind the grooming.
We didn’t speak. But when I raised my camera and he met my gaze, there was something in his eyes — not resistance, not vanity, but a quiet sense of pride. His clothing was simple, but the beard was immaculate. For him, that was dignity. That was self-respect.
