A policeman stood in front of a government building in the Fort of Galle. The entire country seems to be on high alert since a ceasefire agreement with the rebel group, the LTTE, was broken in January 2008. The Old City of Galle, a World Heritage Site, is an important resource for the Sri Lankan government to earn foreign currency, so security is probably tight.
However, I could not feel such a tense atmosphere from the appearance of this policeman who was guarding the old quarter. This policeman was also very cheerful. For the first time since I pointed my camera at him, he stood tall and looked off into the distance, giving off an air of being at work.
