Unlike the idyllic atmosphere of the old town of Galle, the main road of the new town was crowded. As I stood on the sidewalk and watched the traffic, many trucks, buses, and three-wheelers crossed the road in front of me.
As I did so, another three-wheeler passed by. The seats were occupied by boys in their school uniforms. They noticed me holding up my camera as we passed each other and waved happily, but the boys were off in a flash.
As was the case in India, it seems to be a common practice in Sri Lanka to drop off and pick up children from school. However, the method varies from family to family, with some families driving their own cars to and from school, and others, like the boy in the photo, driving a three-wheeler to and from school.
