People Planting Rice Together

People planting rice together
Shot in the suburbs of Muang Sing, Laos Tetsu Ozawa

Paddy fields spread out on the outskirts of the town of Muang Sing, where people were planting rice

When I turned my feet outside of Muang Sing, I saw rice paddies stretching as far as the eye could see. Most of the fields were covered with water. The rice planting season had arrived.

As I leisurely walked along the country road that stretched through the paddy fields, I saw people planting rice in the distance. It seemed that planting rice was a communal activity here, with people, perhaps even non-family members, planting side by side.

Their figures were reflected in the water. Bending at the waist to plant is hard work. I felt that there was an opportunity for Japanese rice transplanter manufacturers to make inroads here.
