When I turned my feet outside of Muang Sing, I saw rice paddies stretching as far as the eye could see. Most of the fields were covered with water. The rice planting season had arrived.
As I leisurely walked along the country road that stretched through the paddy fields, I saw people planting rice in the distance. It seemed that planting rice was a communal activity here, with people, perhaps even non-family members, planting side by side.
Their figures were reflected in the water. Bending at the waist to plant is hard work. I felt that there was an opportunity for Japanese rice transplanter manufacturers to make inroads here.
