The alleyway I stepped into in Shanghai was a mess. Laundry hung from wires, tables were on the side of the road, and bicycles were parked off to the side. It is also common outside of China to see things strewn about the streets, but not many alleys have so much laundry hanging overhead.
In some places, locals were hanging out idly. From the looks of it, the houses around here probably don't have air conditioning yet. It must be too hot to be inside the houses. It seems that the locals go outdoors to cool off and relax, even if they have nothing to do.
