There were many boats moored along the Ben Tre River. Ben Tre is a town in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, an area of 39,000 square kilometers that is lined with the Mekong River, its tributaries, and the waterways that connect them. For this reason, it has always been more convenient to travel along the river by boat than by land.
As I stood on the riverbank watching the boats, a woman appeared from one of the boats, staggering up to the bow of the ship and flying back to land. The bow of the ship had eyes painted on it, so the woman jumping from the bow looked like she was right under the nose of a small animal.
