While walking through Kolkata, I suddenly felt someone’s gaze.
Turning toward a storefront, I saw a man in a sleeveless undershirt sitting there, quietly watching me. At first, he had been lounging back, relaxed. But when he noticed the camera in my hand, he slowly straightened up. And then, without a word, he locked eyes with my lens.
His expression was unreadable — a mix of caution, curiosity, perhaps something more. He wasn’t angry, nor was he smiling. His eyes seemed to ask, “Who are you?” — not with hostility, but with a quiet intensity.
I hesitated for a moment, unsure whether I should take the shot. But in the end, I couldn’t resist the weight of that gaze. I took just one frame.
He remained silent the whole time. Yet in that silence, there was something that spoke louder than words ever could.
