There were just as many people walking on the side streets as on the main street, and there were food stalls on the side of the road. The man in the photo, wearing a black polo shirt, was working on that street. A large machine painted red was placed in front of the guy. The machine can be seen to have several gears and a large handle attached to the side. When the handle is turned, the machine presses the sugarcane with two horizontally attached parts. The man was using this machine to sell freshly squeezed sugarcane juice.
When the man noticed me holding the camera, he gripped the handle and stared at me. His brow wrinkled. The man seemed to think that a strange foreigner had interfered with his work. But since there was no sugarcane to be found in the machine, not a drop of sugarcane juice would be produced even if the man kept turning the handle. Perhaps the man could not let go of the handle he holds daily in order to maintain his dignity in front of the stranger.
