Several stalls lined the edge of the Shuixian Temple Market, with tables and plastic chairs in front of them. Cheap plastic chairs like these can be seen everywhere in Taiwan. They are a staple of the food stall chairs. A man was sitting on one of them. Judging by the empty space on the table, he was apparently waiting for his food to be delivered.
As I was setting up my camera, the man noticed me. His eyes were fixed on us. His eyes were wary and his brow was wrinkled. His sharp gaze pierced me. I'm sure he was annoyed that the food didn't come out, and that I was pointing the camera at him.
He still did not get up or call out to me. He just continued to sit still, staring at us. His expression seemed to bring a strange tension to the scene of a food stall that could be anywhere in Taiwan.
