Hahoe Village in Andong is a World Heritage site that preserves the traditional lifestyle of the Yangban people in rural villages. The Yangban were a privileged class of people in the Goryeo and Yi dynasties. Many houses of the Yangban have been preserved here.
The gate in the photo was one such house. Looking beyond the wooden gate, I saw a man sitting on the porch of a traditional Korean house. I thought he might be a descendant of Yangban, but from the look of the man's face, he was anything but. He seemed to be a tourist, just like me, and was scurrying around.
