The wooden door at the entrance to the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzman in Chiapa de Corso is huge. Unlike the sunny outside, the inside of the church was dim and the strong sun came through the door. This church is the largest structure in the city of Chiapa de Corso. Its size shows that this city was once very prosperous.
The days of prosperity are gone and the town is now tranquil. But the church cannot shrink, and so it continues to tower over the center of the city in a large form. Perhaps because of its size, the church continues to attract visitors even today. As I stood in the dimly lit church, visitors kept coming to the church one after another. This church still functions well as a place of faith. Some came, some left, and the couple in this photo was just walking out the big door.
