The wooden door at the entrance of the church of Santo Domingo de Guzman in Chiapa de Corso was large. Unlike the sunny outdoors, the inside of the church, with its few windows, was dimly lit, with only the large doors letting in the glaring sunlight. The church was the largest building in the town, and its size indicated that the town had once been very prosperous.
The glory days are gone, and the town is now surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere. Still, the huge church, once built, cannot shrink in response to the prosperity of the town. It continues to stand tall in the center of the town.
I don't know whether it is because of its size or its history, but the church continues to attract many worshippers. As I stood in the dimly lit church, visitors came one after the other. The church is still functioning as a place of faith. Some come, some go, and the couple in the photo was just leaving through the large doors.
