The Meguro River is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. However, the riverbank is well protected by concrete, so you usually do not feel much nature when you walk along it. This all changes when the cherry blossom season arrives. The cherry trees planted on both banks of the river bloom all at once and suddenly begin to assert themselves strongly.
It was around the beginning of April when I visited the rows of cherry trees. It was right around cherry blossom season. The cherry blossoms on both banks of the Meguro River were in full bloom, covering the river, and the petals that had fallen were making flower rafts in the river. Many people had come to see the cherry blossoms.
I looked down at the surface of the river and saw an egret. It was walking this way and that in the shallows. At first, I thought it was a carefree egret that had come to see the cherry blossoms, just like humans do, but upon closer inspection, I realized that was not the case. They were not paying any attention to the cherry blossoms blooming above their heads, but were instead looking at the surface of the river. They must be looking for something to feed on. Wild egrets are probably not attracted to cherry blossoms, which do not satisfy their hunger no matter how much they look at them. They are literally more interested in dumplings than flowers.
