The Ueno Toshogu shrine is dedicated to Ieyasu Tokugawa, a founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Many stone lanterns were side by side on the approach. Besides, 48 copper lanterns were placed near the hall. And the cherry blossoms were blooming beside them.
Fortunately, this shrine was not destroyed in air raids during WWII. Air raids kill many non-combatants and destroy their culture. And what has been lost never gets back.
