I was wandering around a residential area near Yangon Central Station. The residential area, with its clusters of modest houses, was exactly the kind of place I wanted to visit on my trip. Walking downtown, with its rows of buildings and stores, is not so bad, but I find it more enjoyable to walk through a residential area where the locals are stirring, and I feel immersed in the atmosphere of the destination. I feel that seeing people without makeup suits me better than seeing well-dressed locals.
As I walked down the narrow alleyway running between the houses, I met the boy in the photo. He was standing alone at his front door. When he noticed me, he started staring at me with a sense of trepidation. I would never see a foreigner in front of my house. Perhaps it is rare to see not only a foreigner but also a stranger near a house. The boy seems to be thinking about what I am doing here. At the same time, he is interested in the camera. His mouth was twisted, but he was staring at my camera.
