A girl was standing in a small hut I found in Pyay. She seemed to be stunned by the sudden appearance of a strange traveler. She folded her hands in front of her chest as if in prayer and looked at me anxiously. As for me, I was surprised to see that the girl's face was covered with a thick layer of Thanaka.
It wasn't just a thick layer of paint on her face. The patterns were drawn strongly as if they were art. In Myanmar, there are many people who paint their faces with thanaka, but it's not often that you see someone who paints their face in such a unique way as this girl. The more I looked at her, the more I wondered if there was some kind of meaning behind it.
