Shikinaen Garden was the former villa of the royal family that ruled the Ryukyus. Although ruled by the Satsuma clan, formally Okinawa was not a Japanese state until the disposal of Ryukyu, but an independent Ryukyu Kingdom that was also incorporated into the Tributary system of China. As evidence of this, Okinawa independently concluded the Treaty of Amity with the United States of America in 1854. Incidentally, after the disposal of the Ryukyu Islands, the Sho family, who had been the royal family, became the Japanese noble family.
A pond was placed in the centre of the garden and a Chinese-style stone bridge was built over it. While gazing at the bridge from a distance, three women came and began to cross it. All three were holding parasols to avoid the strong Okinawan sun.
