A large gate stood at the entrance to Kanda Myojin, a Shinto shrine in Kanda, Tokyo. As I passed through the gate and was about to enter the precincts, I saw a mother and daughter walking from the other side. The mother was walking with her daughter by her hand.
The parent and child were silhouetted, but I could see that the girls were dressed up. It was the time of the Shichi-Go-San festival, so they must have come to pay their respects in holiday clothes. They seemed to have just finished their prayers and were leaving the shrine grounds.
It was a special day, but the girl in her kimono looked unhappy. She was being dragged out of the shrine by her mother. Perhaps she wanted to spend more time in the shrine grounds, but was forced to go home.
