A small stupa stood in the corner of a courtyard surrounded by apartments. A small umbrella was on the top of it. And the eyes were drawn on each side. It is said the eyes on stupas like these are drawn to look out at the world.
In and around Kathmandu, it is not uncommon to see courtyards surrounded by buildings. This structure is a traditional Newari style and the courtyard built in the center is called 'Chok' in the local language.
