As I was standing on the side of the road in Bontoc, a bus came along. This is a small rural town, but it is also the capital of the Mountain Province in the northern part of Luzon. It is also the base for access to the Cordillera Rice Terraces, a World Heritage Site, so many buses come to the town.
The bus that came not only had passengers in the seats inside, but also many people on the roof. The roof of a running bus seems to be a nice place to feel the wind, but at the same time, it must also be exposed to the strong sunlight. It is not so easy to move around comfortably. There are other things to be concerned about. When obstacles appear during the ride, you have to stoop down to avoid them yourself.
I was once intrigued enough to ride on the roof of a bus. The wind felt good. But if it rained, you would get soaked, and if a dangerous obstacle came near, the driver would yell something, and you had to be sure not to miss it. Sitting on the roof of the bus and soaking up the openness of the ride is a win-win situation.
